TAKING THE MESSAGE TO YAHOO'S DOOR
The Hackney Free Amnesty Youth Group has been working very hard this year. Two of their events focused on the case of Shi Tao, a Chinese journalist imprisoned for 10 years after sending a simple e-mail about the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, and how the Chinese government is restricting the reporting of this historic event. Yahoo gave Shi Tao's details to the Chinese government and the group has been campaigning for the internet company to help put pressure on the Chinese government to secure his release.

BLACK GOLD SCREENING
The Hackney Free Amnesty Action Group recently went to the Curzon Cinema in Soho to watch a screening of the documentary 'Black Gold'. The film exposes the unfairness of the coffee industry, focussing on Ethiopia. While we continue to pay for our lattes and cappuccinos, the price paid to coffee farmers remains so low that many have been forced to abandon their coffee fields. The group hopes that people will look for the fairtrade logo when buying coffee in the future, to ensure that coffee workers get paid enough to give them a decent standard of living.
