At Hackney Free we have a team of mathematics teachers who are dedicated to ensuring that each pupil receives a rich and dynamic education. The department aims to give the pupils resourcefulness in overcoming problems and the confidence in the use of mathematics, including the ability to think clearly and logically. Our vision is that every pupil reaches their maximum potential by becoming fully involved in their learning experience.
The Mathematics department at Hackney Free & Parochial is housed in 5 specialist subject rooms. On top of them are built the Science rooms and below are the English rooms. Each classroom is equipped with the latest interactive technology. We have found that by using this visual impact our students are able to learn more easily. Pupils can now see maths in action by watching videos, playing games and much more. All resources are well chosen to cater for individual learning styles and needs.
Every member of the mathematics department is encouraged to keep up to date with current developments by attending training and is actively encouraged to attend relevant courses for career development. We build on success by sharing good teaching practice.
We have a very experienced team and make use of the Impact Maths scheme of work up to year 9 and Edexcel scheme of work for year 10 and 11.
There are revision classes for key stages 3 and 4 as well as booster classes being organized for pupils who want them. Help clubs and homework clubs after school are organized by individual teachers.
